WUNDERKIND - TREAT IDEAS
These are my ideas I had for the treat in my story. I looked at basic snacks mainly ones which were made from dough or cake. My personal favourites are 1 and 2 as they are simple and slightly resemble the shape of a human. They also only feature small elements of colour, which could contrast the completely black and white style. The cherry could also be something to experiment with and use in the story.
My view is simpler is good, because I think 'cupcakes' are oftened gendered as typically 'female' (rightly or wrongly!) whereas donuts and 'buns' are more 'school boy-centric' - also, not sure in terms of when/where you're setting your story... UK/US etc - but you need to be careful too that you're making 'regional decisions' - so a 1950s UK treat would be an 'iced bun' or a 'currant bun' - as cupcakes etc don't associate as immediately... just keep your eye on your temporal/regional influences to avoid designing in a sort of 'mid-Atlantic' generic way. (The same is as true of your boy character - for example, his ruck-sack is very modern, and if he was at school 'back in the day', it would have been a satchel). Just keep your eye on where/when - it will make all the difference and should lead on everything in your world.
