This is my second film review on the film Metropolis 1927. I chose to focus on gender mainly looking at the role of women in the film.

  1. Hi Olivia,

Just a quick comment here about the sources you have used for your quotes...be wary of using a source with no apparent author, as you have done for your quotes here. You really need to be looking at reputable film critics, rather than other students' essays etc. What they ARE useful for, is providing you with a starting point for other books to look at, if they have compiled a bibliography! Similarly Wikipedia...a big no-no when it comes to using it as the primary source, but useful to point you towards other publications.

  2. Agreed - you're actually making some interesting points here - the idea that, just like Rotwang, who fashions a fem-bot in his own image of what a 'women' is, the film itself is doing this same thing to the representation of women on the screen - but, if you're seeking to make a credible, water-tight and evidence-based argument, you need to avoid using 'non-named' sources - it's like a court case where the witnesses are invisible or 'non-identities' - you essentially undermine your own case. This is a really great example here, the argument is strong, but the supporting evidence is weak. You always want big-hitting star witnesses on your side! :)
