Nicely put in context of the time the film was made - you are right... it would be harder to persuade the potential audience these days, what with all the 'fake news' etc...
Just a quick point... you say, 'the word ‘Trope’ typically refers to the final surviving female in a horror film'. A 'trope' is actually anything that is a recurring theme or plot device, often a cliche; so, the protagonist going down in the dark cellar, for example (when in reality, you would put the light on, or better still, run away!)
